Lettering

Lettering today with Mark Frith, assignment was to draw and cut one short word in one day. I chose to do ‘Save time’ (will be ‘Save time, carve time the line.’ in the end). I’m happy with the design but spent far too long polishing down slate so didn’t get to finish it sadly.

Mark was very helpful and spoke very well about letting which I enjoyed. spoke a lot about fluidity and the action of the lines.

Also mentioned a technique for spacing letters, only look at three at a time, and cover different sections to make sure the whole inscription works together. When adjusting letters use the profound letter as a guide and only move it a pencil width at a time so you can work faster.

Life drawing

Had life drawing with Tom M. today, I really struggled, was pissed off about lettering and was very hard to get into it, didn’t expect to draw and didn’t have any of my own drawing materials so used the charcoal from Max (wood carver). Wasn’t a huge fan of it to begin with but it grew on me towards the end. Need to work on shade though to use it properly.
