Torso Modelling

Last day today, lots of intuitive modelling, Kim giving us measurements we ask for as we need them.

Divided areas on Phil and the clay into day manageable areas so we can better see the changes of planes and the lines of the figure.

Can see some of the drawings on the clay here, would constantly model over and then re draw them.

Need to think about the shape/flow of the line. How does it curve in relation to the rest of the figure, how fast does it turn, is the shape concave or convex etc. should also exaggerate some of these lines on the clay so it’s more visible.

After lunch we removed the clay from the armature, after some photos.

Overall, happy with my ability to follow measurements and instructions, hopefully will be able to take these skills into own practice and divide up maquettes into carvable sections. My application of clay also improved as the project went on, however this is still a part which requires a lot of work. My main downfall (apart from attendance) is my intuitive modelling, my eyes simple are not trained or talented enough to see sections as well as they appear. Equally my compositional ability is severely lacking, not knowing where to exaggerate curves and volumes, or how to terminate limbs on the clay in a visually pleasing way.

Final Photos
Interesting photo from removing the clay.

CSW Sign

Continued carving the Trajan letters for the sign I designed, happy with progress, even if it’s slow.
