Phil’s Studio

Finished ‘Jack’ inscription, tired up and refined shapes. Used a pen to go over then rubbed back the pencil lines.

Final drawing sent to client, K is a smidge too thin compared to the C and A.

After lunch I worked on some one hundred millimetre Trajan, was ok. Every time I improve I forget something else.

Finally moved onto large Trajan with a one inch brush, using the proper technique of holding the end of the brush, standing back from the paper. Much easier to twist and get the serifs/junctions right, but keeping weight of the tip and getting a clean stroke was very difficult. This technique requires a lot of work for me.

Letters are quite stocky. Mostly just focusing on the technique of holding the brush rather than the letterforms themselves.
