Phil’s Portrait

Worked right side today, getting skull shape in. Finding a few ‘key’ (looking for highs and changes in planes) points of the skull and working between them by about five millimetres with a large claw, rather than point. Definitely feels more like Phil now. Took lots of waste around ears and right chin, stopping my eye from being distracted. Not sure where to go tomorrow but will probably try and work the rest of the face to an equal point.

Started research today. Just photos of his face and a few depictions of him in sculpture. Will scan the bust i already have and print to scale closer to the start of carving. Next step is finding similar poses to what I want, then styles of carvings I will take inspiration from.
