Phil’s Portrait

Lots of progress today, getting the shape of the head in. Worked the eyes too. I’m able to travel wherever my eye takes me now as I’m so close to the surface. I still try and catch myself to ensure the whole portrait is even.

Spoke to Kim about how to display the portrait, she said think about cutting the stone from different angles, but keeping the roughness and the cut sides. Also spoke about eyelashes and the Royal Society of Portraiture. Always good talking with Kim. Will wait and see how I finish it.

I defiantly think I’ve made good mistakes with this carving, I feel confident in my ability after this week, with Nina and rich telling me to just carve. Next time I carve a portrait I’m confident I’ll be able to work faster, more efficiently and to a higher standard. I’m also confident I’ll still make mistakes mind.
