St. John the Baptist Church Fitting steps with Tristan, easy but heavy job. Spent last night loading the van, nothing broke. Also fixed a large marble candle stick in place after the first step. The plaster makes a suction seal between the marble step and the brick, making it almost impossible to lift off again.…

FotG Started the lettering, carved this in two hours (before the end of Morgan’s show), happy with the speed. Even if they need some touching up. Need my bigger lettering chisels back but shouldn’t complain at all, very happy with these (thank you Chris). My lack of speed is probably due to the time away…

Spent most of the day sharpening chisels from eBay find, got to look at all of them properly and a good five out of six are in good condition with lots of tungsten. The rest are usable but on last legs. Naturalistic Leaf Started this again, will be my first priority with school work this…

Lettering Lettering with Tom, carrying on work from the computer last week. Transferred onto the stone with thinners. Was very quick and easy. Making sure lines were clearly marked on the stone then laying the mirrored print out ink side down. When this was justified and taped down you then dab the back of the…

Drapery Relief Another slow day, still very tired from being ill. Happy with progress, sanded off chisel marks I don’t want, leaving some on to hint at shadows. When this is done will carve in plaster to help get an idea for it. FotG Poster printed…

Drapery Relief Spent the AM spinning down the background, not quite perfect flat but enough to get rid of the noise. Then started removing tool marks by going over with a flat and then sand paper, happy with progress.

Naturalistic Leaf Took no notes today but remember some (writing on the nineteenth) but was a good day. Continued finishing the surface with the claw. Next is detail. Happy with overall shape and movement, however, did go back in with a point on the second leaf. Putting more folds in as I find the surface.…

Naturalistic Leaf Started by (almost) finishing roughing out the second leaf, before moving onto clearing the surface. The point marks left we’re helpful, were like guidelines for me to follow. I left the edges slightly full to cut in detail later on. The cleaner surface of the claw is letting me see where volumes need…
