Phil’s Portrait Worked right side today, getting skull shape in. Finding a few ‘key’ (looking for highs and changes in planes) points of the skull and working between them by about five millimetres with a large claw, rather than point. Definitely feels more like Phil now. Took lots of waste around ears and right chin,…

Phil’s Portrait Decent amount done I think, feels like I’ve done well anyway. Started working the cheek and eye area without the pointing machine. Used a grid between points to help me see where I’m going and what’s happening in these different planes. Will try and work the entire face down before I continue this…

Phil’s Portrait Got too caught up with detail in the bottom left area of the chin in the morning. A good start to the day but needed to move onto a different area to make sure the whole piece is evenly worked. Continued around the left hand side of the face, working the cheek and…

Phil’s Portrait First full day on Phil, started by working in the eminences of the mouth, then worked up to the eminences of eyes. Having clear points to work to feels completely different to free carving, as I have been with the angel. From the eyes I moved onto obviously full areas which were distracting…

Show with Kofi ‘What is Happening Now’ (50th anniversary of sonic meditation) at Cafeoto Audience participation in art, certain art, I find problematic. It alienates as much as it engages. The words chosen may have been perfect for them, but completely wrong for me, ‘storm’ was said when I was thinking ‘sex’, ‘mysticism’ was ‘Cymru’.…

Charlotte Howarth’s Workshop Finished roughly cutting panels, will rub, Trudy letters and take rubbings to check forms closer to end of the year. Much prefer the cross/plus symbol, I like the duel meaning and the confusion it causes. It’s a bit funny.

The Floating One Continued working drapery, Emma recommended dollying the whole surface. I agree so spent the day working the forms like that, gives a much more consistent feel, being careful of the lines of drapery and making sure they remain straight and strong. Flipped it over after lunch to work on the lower portions…

The Floating One Another day. Rich and I spoke in the morning and got me off to a good start. Working on the body of drapery. Then the relationship between that and the shoulders, drawing on the skeleton underneath to guide me. Then working around this. Before lunch I spoke to rich again and printed…

The Floating One Second Monday I’ve missed now, really need to get it together. Pickets are important but shouldn’t miss the whole day. Bad day carving didn’t get much done. Struggling with a lot, tapers, shoulders and collar all aren’t working. Worked all over. Flipped the angel over, can’t figure out collar. Is slowly coming…
