Oliver Craxford Snelling (b. Hertfordshire in 2000) is a sculptor, installation artist and activist, based in South-east London. Anchored in the human form, the majority of Oliver’s sculpture forgoes literal portrayals of the human form, favouring the expression of movement and emotions through the interpretation of unique forms. The focus on the building blocks of forms allows for a universal relation with their work, in line with Oliver’s focus on community driven activism.
Having been trained at the City and Guilds of London Art School in stone carving Oliver now receives ongoing training from Ellen Christiansen. Oliver has received a commission from the Working Class Movement Library in Salford, to be unveiled on completion of restoration works. The bronze portrait of prominent trade unionist and peace activist Harry Pollitt can be found in the Marx Memorial Library’s private collection. Other works can be found in Ruskin House, the Cuban embassy and in Rochester Cathedral.
Upon graduation Oliver received both the City and Guilds of London Art School lettering award and the Worshipful Company of Mason’s Dedication award, before starting private training from sculptor Ellen Christiansen in figurative modelling.
